As any kind of day would go... this one really was just awful. Pre, post what ever... I woke this morning to hear Bob pitching a hissy fit about the state of the house. Last night I made the mistake of telling Jessie that I would empty the dish washer and put the "new" dirty dishes away. Little did I know she would stack the dishes on the counter (go figure...) Bob had to move them to get to the coffee maker. OY. Does he not realize we are all suffering from this awful chaos??? Guess not.
So we got a rant and rave about how he is the only person who does anything in the house... uh... oh, right the garden fairies are doing their work out there and I really need to congratulate the grocery and cooking fairies - they are my favorites!!! I'd have smacked him but it would have been a waste of energy and I just can't function well in the early morning.
Then the kitchen contractor had to pull up several feet of wood flooring because the refrigerator got dropped on it and put serious dings in the flooring. Wait?! Is it even 9 a.m. yet??? ACKKKKKKK!!!!
The day didn't get any better when we got an email from our insurance adjuster... he has been reassigned. We have just gotten him all the information he needs and he's gone! We were this close to getting a check cut!!!
So - while we don't have to start from scratch - we are having to start again. Worst part is that the roofer is suppose to come next week and the glass people are suppose to come at the end of this week to start rebuilding the living room. FINALLY!!! We have people coming and we don't have any money to give them! Our bank is being dorky too. The insurance company cuts the check to your mortgage bank in both of your names, and then they generally sign it over to the home owner. Our bank is making us submit our invoices... which I don't mind but they aren't paying out our monies. And they aren't returning Bob's calls,(not smart on their part) so I guess I will be camping out on the banker's door step on Thursday. Good thing my therapist is out of town and my afternoon is free.
Speaking of which - I have pretty much decided it is time to quit smoking and my therapist won't let me. Not until August when the house should be pretty much finished. And, she tells me, I can't cut back on my meds. Oh darn! lol
Then there was the thing with Jessie's car again - which we still can't get serviced but Bob has a promise from the National Cutomer Serive person that it will be taken care of by the end of the week. But I have 6 On Your Side calling me every 10 minutes for updates. This could be a good thing - but she calls every few minutes while I am actually tryiing to get stuff done around the house.
So I have a cranky husband (who's mood did not improve with the day), then the realization that I have to organize a dinner for 200 at school for the 19th - yes the 19th of this month... yikes. Jessie left her laptop at home, so I had to run that to her. Hmmmm.Talked to the cafeteria and they will cater the dinner at the school. Big check in the done column!
Worked on the gardens again today and they are finally really looking good. I have transplanted plants that are beginning to bloom and it is a very satisfying feeling. The gardener from across the street came over to tell me how great it was all looking and that did make me feel great! For a while I thought the day was so crappy that I should just crawl into a closet and drag a bottle of swilling white wine with me - but I have now decided I should get out of the house and swill in the garden!
Our cousins were in from out of town and I took them on the disaster tour Monday. It's not so overwhelming for me any more because I can see changes. Where the lower 9th ward was laid so bare and venerable during Mardi Gras - much of that has been cleaned up. The headstone is gone and people's belongings are no so apparent and hanging from trees and all. But it is still has a most powerful impact on out of towners.
As only it can happen in New Orleans, we were walking down the street in the lower 9th. I nodded and said hey to the guys on the street - but the twins just ignored them. One guy got in step with them and started chatting that they must be from away because they didn't say hey or nothing. Didn't they know they should say hey when they see people? Or at least offer condolences? I stopped and turned around and said - yeah - they're Yankees and here to take the message back that we are NOT ok.
The guy eyeballed me and asked me if I was from around here - and I said yeah - between the 17th canal and London St breaches. He shook his head, then nodded and we both knew what that meant. Yeah... we were both in the same place. While our family may not have lost as much we are still in the same place. And trying to move on. I wanted to hug him. And the message will go back to Philadelphia and Boston and to all their friends that we are still not ok.
So. Mission accomplished. The word will go out to at least a few more people. Now - if I could only do something with the insurance company! But - my garden is blossoming, and we are reclaiming the levee side yard next. And that's a good thing, I guess.
Well darn, Renee. Crabby husbands are the worst, aren't they? Because in that moment it truly is ALL ABOUT THEM!!!
Hugs & Kisses--

Howdy all, I'm moving this here blog to a new location. I'm tired of managing the extra identity and trying to keep it completely separate from the rest of my online goings ons, so come on over to ellie <3s crafts. I may or may not migrate some or all of the posts here over there depending oh how private I felt they were. So update your bookmarks and feed readers because this URL will be broken fairly soon. xoxo - Ellie
